Lin-Manuel Miranda on hold for EGOT with ‘Encanto’ loss at Oscars

Lin-Manuel Miranda will have to wait for it.

With his Oscars loss Sunday night, the New York native will have to hold off on dreams of an EGOT, or an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony.

Miranda was nominated for best original song for “Dos Oruguitas” from animated Disney movie “Encanto,” but lost to “No Time to Die” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell from the James Bond movie of the same name.

“Down to Joy” by Van Morrison from “Belfast,” “Somehow You Do” by Diane Warren from “Four Good Days” and “Be Alive” by Beyoncé and Dixson from “King Richard” were also nominated.

The 42-year-old writer, who missed Sunday’s show after his wife caught COVID-19, has already won three Tony Awards (best original score for “In the Heights” in 2008, and best book of a musical and best original score for “Hamilton” in 2016), three Grammys (best musical theater album for “In the Heights” and “Hamilton” and best song written for visual media for “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana”) and two Emmys (original music and lyrics for the opening number of the 67th Annual Tony Awards in 2014 and prerecorded variety special for the filmed version of “Hamilton” in 2021).

He was previously nominated for an Oscar for best original song for “How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana” in 2016, but lost to “City of Stars” from “La La Land.”

The EGOT list, small but mighty, includes Mel Brooks, Whoopi Goldberg, Marvin Hamlisch, Audrey Hepburn, John Legend, Robert Lopez, Alan Menken, Rita Moreno and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
