We understand your work will always be unique to you but we've pulled together some advice to give you a better understanding of what you should consider and what we're looking for in your submission. Please see our FAQs below.

How to approach your digital portfolio

Your digital portfolio must be made up of between 10-20 slides on a range of subjects and in different media.

You should select your best and most distinctive work, demonstrating a range of different media and techniques. You should aim to include good pen and pencil drawing skills, 3D model making, design process, and architectural enquiry.

This may consist of:

  • Examples of any art, design or technology-related work that you have undertaken (as part of your previous education, as a hobby, or as an activity outside your formal educational experience)
  • Observational hand drawings (including some of buildings)
  • Sketches showing your design process
  • Photographs of physical models or 3D work you have made
  • Any examples of your use of 3D computer software(s).

Your portfolio must be submitted as a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or PDF.

Our subject teaching team will be looking for a number of key competencies in your digital portfolio.

  • A demonstration of your interest in architecture
  • Good presentation skills, showing your ability to visualise ideas
  • A quality range of visual concepts and high level of innovative thinking
  • Your ability to handle a variety of technologies, materials and processes

Submitting your digital portfolio

Making sure your work is in the correct format and adheres to our guidelines is important.

  • Be no more than 20 slides – this will allow you to include more than one image of each piece of work, if required, plus short descriptions
  • Be submitted as a single unzipped file not exceeding 10 megabytes (mb).

Further guidance on how to submit your digital portfolio will be sent via email during your application process.

Where images are inserted into your presentation, they should be:

  • In JPEG format
  • A maximum of 72 dots per inch (dpi).

What happens after you submit your digital portfolio

Once you've submitted your digital portfolio it'll be reviewed by the course Admissions Tutor. Once a decision has been made on your application you'll receive a notification through UCAS Hub.

It's essential that you submit your work by the given deadline. Unfortunately after this date we'll be unable to consider your application and an unsuccessful decision will be communicated to UCAS.

If however, you're unable to meet the deadline date but are still interested in submitting work for consideration, then please contact the Admissions Team on +44 (0)115 848 4200.

An electronic copy of work submissions will be retained by NTU for the duration of the annual application cycle, but will not be held on file for longer than this. Please therefore ensure that all files sent to us are copies.
