The School of Arts and Humanities offers language learning programmes, consultancy services, bespoke training and short courses.

We've fostered strong links with professional bodies and employers to keep us informed and able to provide innovative, useful services.

Consultancy

Consultancy is an important part of transferring knowledge from an academic to a professional environment.

The School of Arts and Humanities offers consultancy in the form of research, advice and support across a broad range of areas.

Organisations we work with include:

  • governments
  • charities
  • businesses
  • NGOs
  • other education providers
  • the media
  • leisure and tourism operators
  • museums, libraries and archives
  • the entertainment sector.

We have expertise in:

  • Globalisation, culture and cultural identity, with consultancy work undertaken for the Council of Europe, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, NATO Defense College, and UNESCO.
  • Creative industries, with consultancy work undertaken in media and events management.
  • Language testing, with consultancy expertise in benchmarking, training and quality assurance, and guidance for higher education assessments on programmes with international students.
  • Intercultural and interpersonal communication skills for multinational groups from the private and public sectors. Examples of clients include the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, East Midlands UK Trade and Investment, and BNP Paribas (France).

Bespoke training

Our academic team has a wealth of experience in teaching, research and engagement with government and industry.

They are able to design training suited to the needs of many organisations and sectors.

These services range from language training courses, translation services, media and broadcast training, presentation skills and more.

In terms of language training and globalisation, our expertise includes:

  • Services: translation, interpreting, study tours, country briefings and short language courses. Responsive to client needs, our trainers are available to undertake an extensive range of international services. In addition to linguistic training and services, we provide international briefings drawing on our regional experience.
  • Languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English as a foreign language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. We offer both short intensive training in basic language skills through to more comprehensive courses developing the four key communicative competencies – listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Country and regional expertise: up-to-date briefings relating to the changing face of business, society, politics and culture can offer key information to those about to work or travel overseas.
  • Educational consultancies in the areas of: modern languages, international relations, European studies and exchange programmes. We particularly focus on curriculum design, drawing on the themes of blended learning, face-to-face delivery, distance learning, in-country study, intensive delivery and autonomous learning.

Events can be organised at our City Campus, or at a national or international location of your choice.
