When you can go
Opportunities to study abroad are open to most full-time undergraduate students, depending on your course.
You may be able to go for one semester or for a full year. If you opt for a full year, you can either focus on studying, working, or combine both study and work abroad.
Eligibility criteria
You can usually study or work abroad during:
- the second year of a three-year course, or
- the third year of a four-year sandwich course.
Some postgraduate students will also have the opportunity to study and work abroad. This will again depend on your course. See what international opportunities are available for postgraduate students.
There are also short-term opportunities to go abroad every year. Many of these take place in the summer. Read more about this in the What you can do section below.

What you can do
While you're at NTU, there will be opportunities for you to study abroad for up to one year. If this is something that interests you, there are two main options available:
- study abroad at one of NTU's partner universities,
- study abroad through the International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP) network.
We also offer partly-funded summer abroad programmes in collaboration with our partners. There are also short-term opportunities that have different intakes throughout the year.
NTU's partner universities
Students can take part in an exchange programme at one of our partner universities. We currently have over 250 exchange opportunities in over 40 countries. You can study a wide variety of topics in your subject area.
You can search for single-semester or year-long study abroad opportunities using the portal featured in the Where you can go section below. Partner listings update often according to availability.
International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP)
ISEP is a study abroad provider. It's a consortium of colleges and universities from many different countries. This exchange option offers a lot of geographical destinations. You can study at one of the over 140 member universities in the United States and across the world.
NTU belongs to the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) network. Find out more about ISEP and the exciting places you can go with this programme.

When you need to apply depends on when you wish to study abroad, and for how long.
Studying abroad for a full year, or in Semester One, through NTU partners and ISEP
For most students, excluding NBS students:
- applications open on 31 October 2023,
- applications close on 22 January 2024 at 11pm.
For NBS students only:
- applications open on 31 October 2023,
- applications close on 14 December 2023 at 11pm.
Studying abroad for Semester Two through NTU partners and ISEP
Applications open on 17 April 2024 and close again on 18 June 2024 at 11pm.

Study abroad via ISEP destinations
You can also undertake a study exchange through ISEP. It offers affordable study programmes in more than 50 countries. Find out more about ISEP, including the opportunities and destinations available to you.
