Visitor information

We offer several options if you want to visit the NTU Libraries and access resources as a member of the public.

Types of membership

We currently offer three different types of membership if you wish to visit and access material from the NTU Libraries.

Day Visitors – Reference

  • Day Visitor status entitles you to visit NTU Library for up to 12 days during an academic year.

Associate Member – Reference

  • Costs £25 per year.
  • There is no limit on the number of visits.

Associate Member – Borrowing

  • Costs £50 per year.
  • You may loan up to four print items at any time.
  • There is no limit on the number of visits.

How to apply for membership

Applications can be made by people aged 16 and over. Visitor forms can be obtained from the reception desk in the Library

You must provide identification that includes photographic identification, proof of address and proof of your date of birth.

We accept the following forms of identification:

  • Photographic
  • Passport
  • National ID Card
  • Driving Licence
  • NUS / University / College card
  • Work ID
  • Bus pass
  • Gym Membership
  • Bank statement or utility bill (within last three months)
  • Birth certificate

Information for other types of visitors

NTU staff or students who wish to bring in visitors or groups should notify us in advance. Otherwise, visitors will need to complete the process stated above.

If you would like to bring your children into the Library, please talk to staff on the reception desk who will be happy to help, although we maintain the right to refuse entry if appropriate. Children must be supervised at all times during their visit.

As a member of another university library, you may be eligible for external membership under a reciprocal scheme, such as SCONUL access or Vacation Access. Please enquire at your own university library for details.

When you become a member, we will issue you with a swipe card. This allows you access to NTU Library during full service hours. Please bring it with you on each visit.

If you are not eligible to become an external member, you will be able to sign in as a library visitor instead.

Did you know that if you register as an NTU Alumni, you will be able to continue using the library after graduation? A range of services are available for you to use. Once you have completed your application, you will be entitled to:

  • loan up to four print items at any time
  • access the library as many times as you wish during full service hours
  • access NTU-guest wi-fi

Access is free of charge as the usual membership fee is waived for alumni.

If you would like to join the Library as an Alumni member, you will need to complete an Alumni membership application form, which are available at the Information Desk in the Libraries. If you still have it, please bring in your old student card or confirmation that you were a student at NTU. Once you have completed the form, we will create an Alumni card for you.

Library access is one of the many benefits available to you as a member of the NTU Alumni Association. If you haven't done so already, take a look at the other benefits that are available to you.

Things to consider

  • Visiting users are permitted access to NTU Library facilities only during full service hours, please contact the Library for more information.
  • You are required to treat library staff, other users, and library facilities with respect and courtesy, and to comply with requests or instructions from staff.
  • If accompanied by a child under the age of 16 you are responsible for supervising their behaviour at all times during the visit.
  • If you are aged 16-18 you will need to have your visitor application form countersigned by your parent / guardian / school.
  • Visiting users are not authorised to use NTU PCs, even if another user makes their logon details known to you.
