FE staff and students attend Nottinghamshire County Show

Last month our Further Education (FE) staff and students attended the Nottinghamshire County Show. Students from our agricultural courses took part in the events on the day from cow judging to lawnmower racing.

On 11 May, the Nottingham County Show kicked off. It was a fantastic day of events for our FE staff and students. Students had the chance to show their talents and skills at a variety of events taking place across the day.

Students got hands-on in the agricultural section, where they showed cows for judging. Brackenhurst is home to a herd of Lincoln Red cattle. This herd is maintained and looked after by the technicians and students at Brackenhurst. As part of their studies, students learn about livestock husbandry where they develop the knowledge and practical skills for managing livestock. Students presented a series of cows from the herd and did a fantastic job.

Year 1 Agriculture students with award certificates from NNAS

Later in the day students took part in a presentation ceremony and received their certificates from the Nottinghamshire National Agricultural Society (NNAS). This award will contribute to funding further qualifications to help students develop their practical skills.

Staff were thrilled to see so many past and future students come and say hello at the stand. It is always exciting to hear from former students and hear what they've been up to.

The day ended on a high note was as the Brack Young Farmers winning the lawnmower race. Brack Young Farmers is made up from students from the agriculture college course. This relay race involved the driver racing back and forth between hay bales collecting clothing for their teammates to dress in. The Brack Young Farmers were able to take charge and snatch first place.

A fantastic way to end the show and we look forward to joining again next year!
