They Grow Up So Fast — Intern Edition Premieres
The culmination of four months of hard work by NPR's Spring 2011 interns debuted on Thursday with the premiere of Intern Edition — an entirely intern-led project to produce a 30-minute multimedia program, companion website and premiere event.
One facet of NPR's internship program, Intern Edition teams up interns all across the organization in this semester-long project. Each intern fills a role including hosts, reporters, photographers, editors, bloggers, communication and event planning staff, and web designers.
The stories in the Spring 2011 show follow the theme, "Not Quite There," and feature perspectives from 20-somethings around the world as they seek to pursue their goals during an uncertain time in life. Highlights of the show include:

Rachel Otwell, intern at Tell Me More, follows several young people as their lives are changed through their work at DC Central Kitchen, which provides them with job training and a new outlook on life.

"The High Drama and Hard Work of a Life in Opera" by Nina Zipkin, Arts Desk intern, captures the challenging journey of a young opera singer as he explores his passion for the arts.

In a commentary, Science Desk intern and cartoonist Adam Cole wonders what it says about our society that 80,000 people applied to be Charlie Sheen's intern.

Offered each fall, spring, and summer, the NPR internship program is designed to provide eligible students and recent graduates with an opportunity to learn about broadcasting and the supporting areas of NPR through hands-on, practical experience.
