Although the premium configuration is pricey, the MateBook X Pro looks like a steal compared to the eye-watering price tag on the specced-out Surface Laptop Studio 2, offering comparable performance and a better display for our money. When pitted against the holy grail M3 Macbook Pro, a 16GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD MacBook comes in at the same price as the MateBook X Pro, and although the MacBook remains our top choice, the fact you can double your RAM and storage for the same price (if you are willing to sacrifice a bit on the performance and battery life) makes Huawei's offering look a lot more competitive.

This is now an incredibly light machine, but one that doesn’t compromise a jot on performance. The impactful OLED display is the icing on the cake. It gets close enough to the MacBook Air on battery life, and the revised cooling system’s ability to cope with a Core Ultra 9 running at full whack is rather impressive. UK pricing puts it dangerously close to a 14in MacBook Pro, though, which is a phenomenally capable laptop. Newly-announced Copilot+ PCs running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite system-on-chip should last even longer, and cost less to boot – though that’s only on paper until I review one. That said, Windows users who are always on the move will struggle to find anything else that can lighten their load as effectively as this.

There’s so much to like here, but it’s the light weight, finish, build quality and speakers that impress – not the single, super high-end specification or the high price that comes from it. This is such a shame because thanks to the US export licence situation, this may well be one of the last Huawei laptops we see with an Intel CPU and, had Huawei chosen to offer it with a Core 7 Ultra with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, it might very well be one of the greatest, too. As it is, I just can’t see many people taking the plunge. The Huawei MateBook X Pro (2024) is a very, very good laptop, but it’s not quite good enough to justify that price.

Intel Arc 8-Core: Geïntegreerde grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Xe LPG-architectuur (vergelijkbaar met de speciale Arc GPU's, maar met de nadruk op efficiëntie). Biedt alle 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) en 8 ray tracing units.
Deze middenklasse grafische kaarten kunnen alle huidige spellen vloeiend spelen. Veeleisende spellen kunnen alleen met gemiddelde detail instellingen gespeeld worden.

Ultra 9 185H: Een top-of-the-line Meteor Lake-chip die in december 2023 zijn debuut maakte. Deze Core Ultra-processor van de 1e generatie vervangt de Core-chips van de 13e generatie; hij beschikt over 16 kernen (6 + 8 + 2) en 22 threads. De Performance-kernen, waarvan er 6 zijn, draaien op maximaal 5,1 GHz, terwijl de Efficient-kernen, waarvan er 10 zijn (8 hoofdkernen plus 2 extra in het Low Power Island) op maximaal 3,8 GHz draaien. De 8-core Arc GPU, net uit de oven, doet dienst als geïntegreerde grafische adapter - deze draait op maximaal 2,35 GHz - en er is nog een heleboel andere gloednieuwe technologieën beschikbaar, zoals de geïntegreerde AI Boost NPU met twee Gen 3 engines voor hardwarematige AI-werklastversnelling. Het "basis"stroomverbruik van deze laptopprocessor is 45 W, terwijl het Turbo stroomverbruik niet boven de 115 W mag komen.

14.20": Dit schermformaat markeert de grens tussen de kleinere subnotebooks en ultrabooks en anderzijds de office- en multimedia-laptops van standaardformaat. Laptops met dit formaat zijn tegenwoordig relatief zeldzaam.

0.98 kg: Dit gewicht is typisch voor grote tablets, kleine subnotebooks, ultrabooks en convertibles met een 10-11 inch schermdiagonaal.
