The new Asus ROG Ally X is the updated version of the ROG Ally and still uses the same AMD processor as well as 7-inch IPS panel, but almost every other aspect has been improved. In addition to improved ergonomics and better joysticks, the gaming handheld benefits from additional memory as well as the larger 80 Wh battery.

Additionally, the analog sticks and face buttons are now positioned at a more comfortable angle, making it easier and more comfortable for gamers to move their thumbs between them.

While the ASUS ROG Ally X an “Ally 2” - it introduces several smaller yet significant hardware upgrades that make it a far more reliable and refined Windows gaming handheld system that pretty much fixes everything I didn’t like about the original. With more RAM, a battery that’s twice as large, improved thermals, better IO and more, there’s a lot to get excited about with the $799 Ally X.

In the company’s second go-around, Asus has fixed the ergonomic woes and looks set to tackle the battery life problem too. For example, clamshells like the Asus TUF A16 frequently go on sale for less than $2,000. Regardless, if the handheld gaming PC form factor is what you want, the ROG Ally X is shaping up to be a strong improver. It’s out soon, arriving in Australia on 22 July via JB Hi-Fi and the Asus E-store.

Though it only serves as an in-between for the eventual ROG Ally 2, it sports tons of quality-of-life changes and enhancements that address nearly every issue buyers of the original ROG Ally had. For those looking for a new PC gaming handheld that's not the Steam Deck, this could truly be a contender for a true Steam Deck rival. However, the only drawback that could hold it back is that the processor hasn't been updated, meaning that performance will most likely not change too much from the original. And with that model's price going down while the ROG Ally X starts off quite pricey, this could end up being a major deciding factor in its success.

ASUS really sucks as a company right now, but the improvements to the ROG Ally handheld are undeniable. While we like the Ally X, we can't recommend it until we see a massive overhaul in terms of customer and RMA support.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
