FOOD/CASH SECURITY

Everyone should have income security and food to feed their families, especially during a crisis.

However, systemic inequalities cause many New Mexicans to go without reliable access to cash, food, healthcare, and high quality and affordable child care. Many workers are one missed paycheck away from a financial emergency.

Programs like food, healthcare, cash, and childcare assistance have proven to promote long term family stability and health and have lifelong positive impacts for children. They also strengthen local and national economies.

NMCLP works to strengthen and reform financial resource programs by advocating to eliminate barriers and expand programs to serve all New Mexicans, including immigrant families and people living in rural areas of the state.

NMCLP also supports local and state efforts to provide cash assistance programs and guaranteed income to individuals and families, especially those who are excluded from state and federally administered programs like TANF, GA, and Unemployment.
