ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — What started out as a possible breakout season for Yankees pitching prospect Clayton Beeter could turn out to be a lost year due to injury.

Beeter may miss the rest of this season due to his shoulder injury, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

Beeter, who has been on the injured list since midway through May, will meet with Dr. Keith Meister soon. At that point, the Yankees will have a better idea of Beeter’s timeline, Cashman said.

RESTORING THE GLORY

Ranked as the Yankees’ No. 13 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Beeter earned a spot on the team’s Opening Day roster after pitching well in spring training. He made his MLB debut in Houston during the first series of the year, tossing a scoreless inning against the Astros on March 29.

Beeter was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the next day, proceeding to thrive in the RailRiders’ rotation. The righty posted an impressive 2.53 ERA over seven starts. After throwing four no-hit innings on May 15, Beeter was shut down from throwing with shoulder discomfort and placed on the 7-day injured list.

The Yankees came into this season with a handful of top-rated arms knocking on the door in Triple-A, but the first half of the season hasn’t gone according to plan. Beeter is out for the foreseeable future and Will Warren — the No. 7 prospect in the Yankees’ system, per MLB Pipeline — has struggled mightily. Warren has a 6.64 ERA in 17 starts with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
