ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — To state the obvious, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is concerned with how his team has performed in recent weeks — so concerned that he has arrived to send a message to his lackadaisical, losing roster.
The message, however, didn’t take immediately: With Cashman watching, the Yankees lost their 17th game in the last 23 contests on Tuesday night. They are three games back in the American League East and just 3.5 games out of third place, with the Red Sox charging at them.
