Woman, 21, identified as victim of N.J. homicide

A 21-year-old woman has been identified as the victim of a homicide last week in Warren County.

Warren County Acting Prosecutor Anthony Picione on Tuesday identified the victim as Amanda Pulver.

She and the suspect, who is in custody, were familiar with each other, Picione said.

Police were called about 8:20 a.m. Thursday to a shooting on Alphano Road in Independence Township, the prosecutor’s office said. Pulver lived in Independence, the prosecutor’s office says.

Authorities on Thursday confirmed the suspect, 34-year-old Anthony J. Garvin, of Netcong, New Jersey, was taken into custody and sent to the Berks County Prison in Leesport, Pennsylvania.

Garvin remained in the Berks prison Tuesday, awaiting extradition to New Jersey. He faces charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, a crime of the second degree, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Pennsylvania court records show Garvin was taken into custody in Berks by the Wyomissing Borough Police Department and imprisoned with bail denied.

A Wyomissing police log shows police there took a male wanted for homicide into custody about 11:20 a.m. Thursday on Crossing Drive.

If convicted on the murder charge, Garvin would face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

A Facebook post by Pulver’s father, Darrin Pulver, remembers her as “beautiful, sweet, thoughtful, kind, intelligent.” The post states her puppy, Dunkin, also was killed: “It appears he was taken from us while trying to save Amanda.”

“The devastation caused to her mother, her two amazing brothers, her grandparents, extended family and her friends cannot be overstated,” the post states.

The prosecutor’s office said it was assisted in the homicide investigation by Independence Township and Wyomissing police, New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Police, and the Warren County Tactical Team.
