Pedestrian critically injured in crash at N.J. intersection

A pedestrian was in critical condition after he was struck in traffic Sunday afternoon at an intersection in Union County, authorities said.

The male victim, whose name or age were not released, was struck about 2 p.m. by a car that was turning at Westfield Avenue and North Broad Street in Elizabeth, according to a city spokeswoman.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene. The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital in Newark and placed on life support, the spokeswoman said.
