Authorities investigating N.J. double shooting that left 1 dead, 1 hospitalized

Authorities in Union County are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and another hospitalized Sunday morning.

Elizabeth police officers responded to the 400 block of Westminster Avenue in the early morning hours of July 7 for a report of a shooting, Union County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday. They found two men suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene, authorities said.

Jose Aranzamedi, 47, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, investigators said. The second victim, a 51-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition, according to officials.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact authorities.

Tips submitted online at uctip.org or by phone at 908-654-8477 are eligible for a $10,000 reward if the information leads to an arrest and indictment.
