Bicyclist killed after being struck from behind by vehicle on Route 206

A 22-year-old bicyclist from Pennsylvania was killed after being struck from behind by a car while riding on the shoulder of Route 206 in Sussex County on Saturday, officials said.

Damian Baranowski was riding northbound in Sandyston at about 2:50 p.m. when the car hit him, State Police said. The 21-year-old driver from the Bronx, New York, veered off the road to left, struck a utility pole and overturned.

She was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Baranowski, of Milford, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the scene near milepost 125.3.

He graduated from New York University in May with a degree in economics, according to an online obituary.

Baranowski is survived by his parents and sister.
