Father, son charged with detonating homemade firework that wounded bystander

A father and son face charges of aggravated assault after allegedly detonating a homemade firework during a Fourth of July event at a Somerset County park, wounding a 34-year-old man, authorities said Monday.

The two men - Thomas Kaiser, 60, of South Plainfield, and Erich Kaiser, 28, of Monmouth Junction - were released after being arrested by Manville borough police. Both also are charged with possession of an explosive device and criminal mischief, borough police said Monday.
