This massive Teaneck home was designed to feel like a street in Italy.
At the heart of it is an atrium with 37-foot high skylight for its ceiling. Most of the floor tile is an outdoor grade. Woodwork in the home was imported from Portugal.
“Every single stone in the house was chosen very carefully,” said Ron Cohen with Keller Williams Park Views, the listing agent.
The owners of the home bought the property when it had a small house on it, knocked it down and built this from scratch 10 years ago.
“They put much more money into the house than what they’re selling it for,” he said.
The home has 12 bedrooms, 12 full- and two half-bathrooms. It spans 15,000-square-feet, or a total of 21,000-square-feet if you include the basement. It’s listed for $4.95 million.
The home also comes with a massive property tax bill – $106,000, which Cohen said was recently reduced from almost $150,000.
The home was designed for a large family. It has seven ensuite bedrooms on the second floor that all surround the atrium, including the primary bedroom.
“The way the house was built, you can communicate,” Cohen said. “You can be in the living room and speak to someone in bedroom through the atrium. So you have a big house, but you also have family connected.”
The home sits on nearly 2.5 acres that back to the Hackensack River. It’s also set back from the street and has a circular driveway.
Foam insulation keeps out street noise and helps keep utility costs for the large home in check, he said.
The size and price tag of the home are unique for Teaneck and more similar to homes you would find in Englewood or Tenafly, Cohen said.
There is one other home currently listed in Teaneck that has a bigger price tag than this one. It’s an eigth bedroom, 10 full- and one half-bathroom home on the market for $5.2 million.
The median sales price of a home in Teaneck was $650,000 as of May, according to the most recent data available from New Jersey Realtors. That’s up 17% from a year ago when the median sales price was $555,000.
The home has been on the market for less than two weeks and attracted interest from people who want to shoot a movie there, hold a wedding and host a sweet sixteen.
“There’s nothing else like this in terms of the style, size and that it’s on 2.5 acres,” Cohen said.
