NYC trio broke into N.J. home, tied up residents, beat them while ransacking house, cops say

Three Bronx, New York men were charged with committing a home invasion in Teaneck in January, where four people were tied up, assaulted and robbed by gun-toting robbers, authorities said.

The three men were arrested on Tuesday in the Bronx in a joint operation with New York and Teaneck police, the FBI and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, said Prosecutor Mark Musella.

Arrested were Frank A. Salcedo, 43, Francisco Sandoval, 42; and Brain Arias, 40, who were charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, weapons and other offenses after an investigation that spanned several months, the prosecutor said.

The home invasion at an East Tryon Avenue residence occurred on Jan. 12. Teaneck police were called at 2:58 p.m., and officers found that two adult victims had been restrained inside the home with zip-ties by three male suspects who were wearing masks and armed with handguns since around 10:30 a.m., authorities said.

Two other adults arrived at the home and were held at gunpoint by the suspects. During several hours of captivity, one of the victims was attacked with a hammer and assaulted. The suspects also threatened to torture and kill one of the victim’s two minor children if the person did not turn over money, authorities said.

The suspects also ransacked the home, punching holes in walls; ripping apart couches, destroying furniture, and pulling vents and cabinets off the walls in an attempt to locate money they thought was hidden in the house, officials said. Once the suspects left the house, a victim was able to get free and call police.

The Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Squad and Teaneck police identified the trio after finding two suspect vehicles that were involved in the home invasion. Investigators found a GPS tracking device that was surreptitiously attached to one of the victims’ vehicles by the suspects, authorities said.

Salcedo, Sandoval and Arias were each charged with four counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree armed robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, two counts of third-degree aggravated assault, and second-degree armed burglary.

All three suspects are in the custody of New York police pending their extradition to Bergen County.
