Man killed, woman injured in 4th of July shooting in N.J.’s capital city, officials say

A man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting on the Fourth of July in Trenton, authorities said.

Police were called to the 800 block of Stuyvesant Avenue around 11:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting in progress, authorities said. Officers found a man, identified Friday as 32-year-old city resident Amir Williams, shot multiple times in the torso, according to a release from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Williams was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the office said.

During the investigation, a second shooting victim, an unidentified woman, arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the right hip area, officials said.

The woman was in stable condition as of Friday afternoon, Trenton Police Detective Lt. Lisette Rios said in a separate statement.

No arrests were made as the shooting was still under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Detective Elijah Phillips of Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office at (609) 414-2006 or Sgt. Roberto Reyes at (609) 256-0997. Information can also be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org.
