One of South Jersey’s most successful girls basketball coaches has found a new home.

Anthony Corrado, who spent 21 years as the head coach of Rancocas Valley before resigning in March, is the new coach at West Deptford.

Corrado replaces Mark Petito, who is now the new coach at Haddon Township.

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” said Corrado, who turned 51 on Sunday. “I’m excited to be coaching in the Colonial Conference, a conference that has a really great tradition. I went to Sterling, so I played in the conference in my athletic career. I started my career at Haddon Heights as a JV coach, so kind of coming full circle back to the Colonial.”

West Deptford is coming off a 11-17 season, reaching the first round of the South Jersey, Group 2 state tournament before losing to Sterling.

“I’m really excited that we have somebody with Anthony’s pedigree that wants to come in here and build this program,” West Deptford athletic director Keith Williams said. “I really think he’s going to take it to levels that it hasn’t seen in the past. It’s a great hire for West Deptford High School and the West Deptford Community.”

Corrado had plenty of success in his two decades at Rancocas Valley.

He won 415 games, second most in Burlington County girls basketball history and 10th most in South Jersey girls basketball history.

He won two group championships, and guided Rancocas Valley to two Tournament of Championship appearances in three years with his 2013 team reaching the T of C final, losing to Shabazz.

Corrado only had two losing seasons during his tenure at Rancocas Valley and took over a program that had a 2-23 record before his first season, building the program into one of the most respected in South Jersey and in the state.

Corrado will be looking to do the same now at West Deptford.

“We went through the process and it became obvious that he was clearly the right choice for us and resetting the program and making the strides forward to compete in the Colonial-Liberty Division,” Williams said. “We’re really excited to have him on board.”

Corrado met with his new team on Tuesday, outlining his vision of what he wants to build moving forward.

“I really want to try and become a fabric of that area,” Corrado said. “Change is good sometimes. I’m excited. I’m ready for a new challenge and ready for something new and different to happen. I loved my time at RV, but I’m hoping that I can have similar success at West Deptford and finishing my career there.”
