There was a roughly five or so day stretch back in February where Ridge coach Roy Dragon III found himself in an unusual, unchartered spot in his coaching career.

The third-year bench boss in Basking Ridge had just helped guide his then-No. 20 ranked team to an epic come-from-behind 35-33 win over then-No. 14 Mount Olive in the Group 4 final, giving the Red Devils their first state title since 1986 and Dragon his first state title as a head coach.
