Bowling coaches revel in new ‘do or die’ state tourney format. But it could be even better.

A new state tournament format took center stage in New Jersey high school bowling this season.

After years of hosting massive sectional meets — where any team could enter and rendered the regular season almost meaningless — the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association introduced a format this year that pitted teams head-to-head in a bracket-style tournament, using regular season scores to qualify.
