Nearly six hours after its 9 a.m. start time, the Barnegat girls bowling team finally got to call themselves state champions. After a near-stumble against Ocean Township in the semifinal, Barnegat — No. 7 in the NJ.com Top 20 — beat No. 20 Holy Angels 2-0.
Barnegat won Game 1 by a comfortable margin against Ocean. Then, out of nowhere the match was tied, with a winner-take-all Game 3 for a chance at the finals.
