After a disastrous 6-11 season that brewed questions around quarterback Daniel Jones and head coach Brian Daboll, a successful New York Giants 2024 season would be defined for many as one with a winning record. Maybe the playoffs.

According to Sports Illustrated’s NFL insider Albert Breer in a story published June 28, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Giants’ season ends much better than that. Think: Super Bowl.

In the NFC, I think I’d give you the New York Giants, if you want a true dark horse. They need development from 2022 first-rounder Kayvon Thibodeaux. They need to figure it out at quarterback, whether it’s Daniel Jones or, if things break wrong for him, Drew Lock. But their rookie class looked dynamite in the spring, I think Brian Burns might be the best acquisition of the offseason, and they were really good two years ago.

The Giants reaching the Super Bowl would be one of the most surprising outcomes of the 2024 season, but every team has reasons for optimism in the offseason when they’re 0-0 and their players are healthy.

Jones is the key to the Giants’ season. If he stays healthy and plays more like 2022 when he threw 15 touchdowns against five interceptions or 2019 when he threw 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, New York would have a chance to be competitive.

But from top to bottom, the Giants were not good last season: their offense ranked among the most futile and their defense among the most porous in the league. Their yardage differential was last and their points differential was 30th.
