N.J. town official faced backlash after supporting workers’ claims of unfair treatment, suit says

Montclair’s affirmative action officer has sued the township, claiming he faced retaliation after he backed township workers’ claims of discrimination and a hostile work environment.

From 2013 to March 2022, Bruce Morgan investigated 15 discrimination complaints made by Montclair employees. Each time, Morgan concluded the township had done nothing wrong, according to court papers.

But on March 11, 2022, Morgan concluded that changes in the fire department’s testing criteria had a disparate impact on minorities who took the 2021 promotional test.
