Person fatally struck by NJ Transit train in North Jersey, officials say

A person was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train Wednesday afternoon in Bergen County, officials said.

The person, who was not identified, was struck by a Port Jervis Line train at 3:29 p.m. near the Plauderville Station in the vicinity of Van Winkle Avenue in Garfield, according to an NJ Transit spokesperson. The train had departed Port Jervis at 1:35 p.m. and was originally scheduled to arrive in Hoboken at 3:54 p.m.

The incident was still under investigation.

Trains in the area were being held as of 5 p.m., the spokesperson said.
