Northern Illinois University is committed to appropriately providing information about the university to requestors.
Much of the information is readily available through an on-line search of the university web pages or through a simple verbal request through the university's Institutional Communications office that can be reached at 815-753-1681.
Media and individual requestors of information about Northern Illinois University are encouraged to contact NIU's Institutional Communications office via phone to determine if the information requested is immediately available PRIOR to filing a formal Freedom of Information request, pursuant to Public Act 096-0542.
Complex requests or those that will require significant research should be filed using the Freedom of Information Act online submission form.
The Division of Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications processes all university freedom of information requests (FOIA) in accordance with the requirements of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
As permitted by law, for administrative and environmental purposes, we prefer but do not require FOIA requests to be submitted using this online submission form. You may submit your request using this FOIA form (PDF) or other clear form of communication should you prefer to print your request and submit it manually.
To read about changes to the Freedom of Information Act enacted in 2010, see IL Public Act 096-0542. For more information about FOIA, see the Illinois Attorney General's website.
