If you understand that by working for a large corporation, you will be ignored/treated as a statistic, then it's not the worst job. Their discount is convenient now, however their pay is not the same. Each promotion earns the employee a $2 raise, which means after a year it's possible to be paid fairly, though not guaranteed. The location I was at specifically had an unnecessary amount of drama, though that isn't entirely a given at all locations. If you are already a skeptic of working for corporate rats, you won't be a fan of B&N, but if you don't care much about the corporation, it's a nice, calm, bookish environment.
I enjoyed the working environment at Barnes & Noble, everyone around me--the co-workers and managers are friendly and are passionate about serving customers.
I enjoyed the atmosphere. I thought everyone was really nice and understanding. I enjoyed the small community. I disliked how limited the schedule was. They did not try to schedule people as much as possible, rather with what they were comfortable. However, the schedule always came out 3 weeks in advance.
