San Jose Reviews

There is nowhere else like San Jose; I have lived near downtown San Jose all my life. I like the tightknit and welcoming community created, especially because of the many diverse backgrounds. For example, when I was younger, I had a new neighbor who had a different background than my family-she was of Chinese descent while we are of Mexican origin-, but ultimately became our greatest friend because we bonded over food. She liked Mexican tacos while we liked Chinese sweet and sour pork which fostered a community based on reciprocity (we traded food). San Jose also has a lot of cultural centers and events, especially downtown. One thing I would like to see change is the management of cleaning. I do notice there is a lot of trash floating on the streets. I think this brings down the environment such a special city provides. Other than that, my experience is very positive.
As a suburb to raise your kids, San Jose is a great area. Lots of fun foods to try, lots of good public schools and parks. As a teenager who can’t enjoy the nightlife scene, this city lacks third spaces for people to enjoy! A common complaint is that the only things to do here are “spend money”.
Costs of living need to be reduced, especially electricity and rental. The real estate market of San Jose, while not situated in a ridiculous price range like San Francisco, is still relatively expensive. Students and people who live alone only have jobs that are 18/hr, which is nowhere near enough to pay the rent, not to mention gas, food, and other expenses. In addition, auto insurance has just increased by nearly 30%, raising the monthly insurance cost to an absurd price range; even if you own a vehicle from 2006, it still costs you $ 90$ a month.
