Philadelphia is a great place to live. Even though it can be a bustling city, over the course of spending almost one year as a Philly resident, I can say for certain that the community is vibrant and strong. As an educator, it is my dream city because there are so many educator activists, influencers, and change makers I am constantly being inspired by and developing relationships with. I meet such dedicated folks spending their off hours organizing to create spaces for low-income students of color, at protests and marches advocating for our students not just in Philadelphia but their families and communities abroad, and conducting teach-ins so that there is more equitable access to knowledge that keeps Philadelphians informed and protected by and for each other. Philadelphians take care of each other by speaking up for each other. We keep each other safe!
Absolutely! However, one should delve deeper into exploration. Currently, we've been fortunate to stay with a close friend, who feels like family, eliminating any immediate concerns. I lack personal experience with hotels or alternative apartment options, but I've noticed that the local banks maintain a commendable standard of service. Despite the time-consuming commute to the main city, the vicinity boasts convenient access to sizable stores and markets, albeit cleanliness remains a concern. Procuring a SIM card poses its own challenges due to the abundance of options available. Regrettably, many individuals working in SIM-related services lack the necessary expertise, often leading to prolonged and frustrating interactions.
I like it here, but wish it was a lil safer. I was coming home from a bar one night and this kid that lives in my building came up with a bloody face, and we were all like "omg what happened?" and his girlfriend said a homeless man pushed him down a flight of stairs! He was like in shock and couldn't speak. Felt bad for him.
