Latin School of Chicago Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 118 reviews
This place brings in the worst human parents in the city. They are awful, evil, self-serving clout chasers. The studnets are entitled, rude, lack humility and manners. Most of the parents are IVY league Harvard Grads who will remind you daily that they went to Harvard or have a ted talk. This school does not care about you or your kids unless you have money to donate. Money is everything here. They pretend like they care when they set a strict budget for the moments that are meant to celebrate their student body by saying "we don't want to make people feel bad." The budget for the party isn't what makes people feel bad. It's the insane annual price increase and your kid's Van Cleef & Arpels necklace or the conversation about who's father has a nicer car. Everything you've read in the news is mostly accurate. Is a good education worth trauma. You can decide that for yourself. Latin is about keeping up with the Jones'... if that's your thing, this is your kids' school.
I came to latin after I graduated 8th grade for high school. I came during covid into a new foreign environment with only one friend from my middle school joining me. My middle school was extremely diverse, so moving into this new enviornment was definitely hard. I did not make that many meaningful connections until my Sophomore year because everything was online and virtual my Freshman year. I connected with people through sports such as Basketball and Baseball. Also using clubs and affinity groups to adapt helped as well. Sophmore was my first time being back in a class enviornment in two years at that point. I made friends extremely quick and had a blast. The classes I took significantly added to my experience has I have enjoyed them so much. My Junior and first semester of Senior year were filled with a lot of college preparation as the difficulty of the classes only became higher. All in all, I have loved every moment of my experience at Latin. I would change nothing.
During my four years of attending Latin, I have had a multitude of good and bad experiences. As a queer woman of color, I have dealt with many biases from different people whether it be because of my race, gender or my sexuality. Due to Latin being a private white institution, I expected to experience such prejudice therefore I found myself prepared for when instance like those happened. Of course I stood my ground and reported such incidents but I learned that the only thing that would help my circumstance was to move on as many of the faculty wouldn’t do anything. Aside from the bad experiences I’ve had due to bias and prejudice, I have had many good experiences as well. Being able to go to another state with expenses fully paid by Latin is one of the highlights of my high school career. I have gotten to experience so many things like traveling and activities that I might not have otherwise been able to do without Latin. All in all, Latin has offered me both good and bad experiences.
