From The Davidson Academy
The Davidson Academy is the only free public school of its kind for profoundly gifted students. The Academy’s classes group students by ability rather than age, offering a middle and high school level curriculum that is matched to their abilities, strengths and interests. Our unique approach to learning has attracted families from across the country and globe.
Located in Reno, Nev., the Davidson Academy is centered on a dynamic academic environment where students who score in the 99.9th percentile on IQ and achievement tests thrive among their intellectual peers.
Our fully-accredited school is centered on interpersonal and instructional-based learning, creating an atmosphere that is vibrant with intellectual energy and dialogue. As the school has grown, the Academy has evolved to offer an increasing number of opportunities, while still providing a laser-sharp focus on the individual student.
Davidson Academy Online is now an independent school with a separate application process.

Personalized Learning at the Davidson Academy
Students along with their parent(s), an Academy guidance counselor and the curriculum team create a Prospective Learning Plan (PLP). The purpose of the PLP is to deepen and strengthen the learning experience for all Davidson Academy students. These PLPs are consistent with the Davidson Academy philosophy of treating students as individuals who are invested in their own learning.

the culture is weird. most school events are a bit lame tbh. you will get to know most students (or at least their faces). students can be pretty competitive abt grades. lots of stress culture. many students do not have the highest EQ lmao. i would say <10% of students are not white or Asian. lots of clubs during lunch! i would recommend participating in an activity at a local HS for a taste of the more traditional HS experience.
many DA parents are helicopter parents which is not the most fun thing for the school & students. the administration can be a bit overprotective of students too. i've had mostly great interactions with admin members, but some things that admins do seem downright unreasonable to me.
i am extremely thankful for my experience at DA and excited to leave for college!
