Baldwin is a gem. I spent 10 years at Baldwin and continue to be involved as much as possible through alumni events. Not only can I personally speak to the amazing education and outstanding musical guidance that I received, but I can also attest to the trails that Baldwin continues to blaze with its constant focus on excellence. While the dining room chairs are deserving of an upgrade (hint hint), I am happy to stay connected with the school to learn of all the new innovations they are continually rolling out. Baldwin girls are confident, intelligent, poised, and well-mannered. They can truly take on the world!
I chose Baldwin for high school as I was told it was the best of the best; however, I ended up leaving after sophomore year because that could not be farther from the truth. Starting off, the academics are terrible, especially in the math department. As I am now on the road to college, I took a placement test for my university and passed out of pre-calculus and calculus (the two math courses I did not take at Baldwin) and did not pass out of Geometry (the class I took at Baldwin, which is supposed to be one of the best schools in the state). To be clear, while taking honors geometry at Baldwin, I received an A in the class. It would've been an A+, but Baldwin does not give out A+ grades, a rule I absolutely hated. The teachers don't support students, there is a huge bullying problem, the curriculum is not competitive, and there is a rat problem. When I went there, every student I talked to said they hated it, and that says it all.
Baldwin School is coasting on its former glory. Mice and rats infest not only the buildings but also the cafeteria, posing serious health risks. The buildings are deteriorating, reflecting the overall neglect. The outdated curriculum leaves students unprepared and disengaged. We decided to send our daughters to another school because of this. We aren’t the only families doing this. Poor academics has led to a mass exodus of students seeking better education elsewhere. To make matters worse, there is no effective anti-bullying policy, leaving students vulnerable and unprotected. Baldwin School is failing on all fronts, and it's heartbreaking to see such neglect. Avoid this school if you care about your child's well-being and education.
