Alum: I graduated from high school online through Penn Foster's predecessor ICS. It was affordable for me to do, while working part-time in childcare. It was self-paced so I finished high school at age 16 and went on to take an Office Assistant Certificate in a year at a local technical college. I was working in a full-time office job at 17 years old. I was able to support myself in my own apartment with a decent used car and put aside an emergency fund. Based on my family situation, this high school was an ideal option to move forward in life and become independent. High school is not the end of learning - it was a foundation to build on. The best education comes from a professional mentor who takes the time and effort to train you to the industry. A few 'lifetimes' later and I am about to graduate from an online university with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Marketing. Senior: Ohio Virtual Academy is a great school for college readiness and honors programs. I am very satisfied with my teachers and the coursework I have received during my time at this school. I was able to select my own classes every year and choose programs of my interest such as career tech education. This program has set me up for success and opened my eyes to what I am passionate about in the career field. Whilst I am very satisfied with my experience, some things could be fixed. There is a lot of online matentience that goes on and it makes it hard to submit coursework, as well as the entire OLS shutting down in the middle of classes. Senior: I loved my time at TVAH! The flexibility of the classes allowed me to excel academically. The teachers were supportive and I made many friends. Participating in class allowed me to get to know most of my classmates and teachers. Everyone seemed to know who I was, and I felt like I belonged to a community. Thanks to my counselor, I was able to graduate a year early, get accepted into a Tier 1 university and plan to attend this fall. I took on dual credit, which helped me earn enough credits to graduate early, and I am also graduating from the top 10% of my graduating class. I had also been accepted into the NHS and received a volunteer internship. One thing I'd like to see change in the future for other students is more language classes. I am overall satisfied with the school's offerings and opportunities for students. I wish I had enrolled sooner! Sophomore: Since I have been a student with Keystone, I have enjoyed my academic journey for the most part. Keystone was an excellent option for me given its flexibility; learning at my own pace is quite refreshing, and I feel like I'm receiving a better education than the majority of schools in my area provide. In terms of issues I have encountered, there have been several assignments that have vague instructions--and navigating courses initially was 'scary,' per se. The majority of courses allow quiz retakes, online textbooks are provided, and the teachers are usually incredibly helpful and kind. Rarely do I feel ashamed about asking for help from teachers--which is something that I severely struggled with previously in in-person classes. Honestly, I can only think of 3 instances where I was dissatisfied with teachers. An aspect of school that I love is that interaction is only required for a handful of assignments--which may be a downfall for social students but is a personal relief for me.... Read 100 reviews

Junior: Despite Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School being an entirely virtual school, I feel as though I’ve been able to thoroughly connect with my teachers and classmates. I’ve formed genuine connections and the school places a strong focus on socialization for students, from workshops, to clubs, to in person activity classes, to field trips. The course catalog is extensive and there are a variety of AP classes and college courses available for students to take. Most of the teachers I’ve had are amazing, great at communication, and care for their students in a way that’s unique to an online school. There are volunteering opportunities available through tutoring and many resources for students taking the SAT/ACT. The quality of the content in both STEM and art courses is high. Alum: It was amazing. The middle school I originally was supposed to go to had fights very regularly. TCAH allowed me to stay safe at home, while also getting an education easily on the level of a normal middle school and high school. The program allows student to work at their own pace (per week) and eliminates unnecessary homework. The teachers also allow several relearning opportunities for students struggling. However, there is very little student-to-student contact due to TCAH being online (as well as many student are already introverted). Alum: Alabama Connections Academy is a flexible experience that allows students who can’t or may not want to attend a brick-and-mortar school a chance to receive an education. The teachers will enable you to text, call, or email them, which is convenient to most people but can be off-putting to others. Moreover, if you don’t feel comfortable texting your teachers it can be difficult to contact some as they wait too long to respond to emails and miss your calls. As for the educational aspect, ALCA offers standard-level classes, honors, and AP. Honors and AP can be a bit intimidating because when you start your counselor doesn’t actively advise you on these decisions. On the bright side they have many clubs that give you honors like the Science Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and NHS these clubs aren’t aren’t extremely exclusive as they only require you to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.
