Parent: MSSM is a unique and amazing school! My oldest son graduated a couple of years ago, my middle son is currently a Sophomore, and hopefully, my daughter will be a Freshman next year -- so I have years of experience as a Penguin Parent.
As a small, coed, public boarding school in a small town in Northern Maine, MSSM is a unique proposition -- the academic quality of a private prep school without the price. The science and math options are top-notch, and cross-registration with UMPI means all students graduate with college credits (if they want them), and every year 10-15% graduate with an Associates' Degree. Some restrictions are necessary given the school's size and dependence on the legislature for funding -- athletics and the arts aren't priorities. But a school is mostly the people, and that is where the school is exceptional. Small classes, caring teachers and staff, and a student body that is gifted, curious, accepting, and hard-working.
