Senior: My experience at Berkley was pretty diverse. I was a dual enrollment student and was afforded the ability to attend high school, technical school and college over a 3 year period. This gave me flexibility and taught me how to organize and prepare for my college future. The school provided transportation for me to get to technical school for 2 years. My counselor was the best and always kept me motivated to keep going when times got tough. The school is improving quite a bit with diversity from when I first started there. Senior: As a senior at Houghton High School, I can say with confidence that this school provides a great education and prepares its students properly to launch into adult life. Especially in college preparation, Houghton does a great job. As someone involved in the Music and Arts for all 4 years, there are some phenomenal faculty curating a creative spark in many of its students. There is also a large focus on sports at Houghton making the sports program heavily praised and involved throughout the entire school district. Parent: I am a parent of four children in New Buffalo Area Schools and have lived in the district for almost 10 years. Each subsequent year has gotten better and I could not ask for a better place to send my children to learn each day. Senior: I loved my high school experience! The faculty/staff were amazing! I have so many great relationships with my teachers that will carry through my whole life. I even loved them so much that I had lunch with them even after graduating. In addition, I gave them all my personal email for talking in the future, and I’m sure some of them will be invited to my wedding. The academic side of things is amazing. Byron Center is one of the top schools in Michigan. We have an outstanding AP class variety, high SAT scores and high achieving students. The balance of student life is outstanding! A majority of students are in sports, arts, difficult classes, KCTC and more. The arts program is fantastic. Byron Center Jazz Orchestra (which I am a part of) competed in Essentially Ellington in NY. It is a jazz competition and they pick 15 schools in the U.S to play and we were one of the schools chosen. Senior: My experience within the Chelsea School District has made me quite appreciative of my hometown. Living and growing up in Chelsea and going to school within the district has made me realize the preeminent connections that Chelsea shares. Chelsea School District prides itself on community, excellence, and pride. My favorite part of the district is how close-knit the community is. For instance, the abundance of community participation in sports, local events, etc. Although, one thing that isn’t particularly favorable is how political our education has become. Our school board in particular has been experiencing a heightened period of political tension that is reflecting poorly on the school, putting politics ahead of what’s best for our community and education. Senior: Being a senior student, there has been many dips and rises that have occurred. Our school has recovered well from the challenges we’ve face such as Covid, blizzards, cyber attacks, etc. Despite all these situations, excluding the social controversy and unbalanced diversity mainly between teachers, I have had a great experience as most of the students I have connected with have been kind and welcoming. Being a goalkeeper for the north muskegon soccer team had also positively impacted me physically and mentally despite our hard schedules of playing teams above our level. Senior: As a senior who has gone to PCCS for a long time, I can say that it’s an amazing school. Once you get over the bitterness most children have for academics, you can really reflect on how well the education and campus prepare you for the real world. Also with me perusing college, I can say for certain that I feel prepared! I was never afraid to be myself as there is such a large number of people to learn from and be around. Even being someone with a little bit of social anxiety the staff and students really helped me come out of my shell. The only thing I have seen issues with would be the safety! As one of the children who went through the lockdown that lasted around 5 hours, I did have a realization of how unsafe school campuses can be, but I have seen an active change in safety measures, such as the placement of emergency buttons around the paths and frequent drills. Senior: I have had a great experience. As a college prep, it pushes you to be your best. The teachers are very helpful and are eager to answer any questions you may have for them. The facilities are old, but they have made the best effort to create a safe and comfortable space. Because of these reasons, I strongly recommend Black River Pubic School to any students or families interested in attending.This school is very small but that is what makes it such a high quality education. The teachers know all their students by name and have a close relationship with them as the classes are quite small. The classes are very quick pace and if not familiar with that environment, students may struggle at first to get ahold of the expectations for each class. Senior: I have absolutely loved my experience at Mona Shores. I feel as though I can learn in a safe and reliable environment and I know there is always someone around to help if I need it. I am involved in many different sports at Mona Shores and they have allowed me to explore the things I like and meet new people. I also take multiple AP classes here at Shores and I have found the teachers are amazing at motivating kids to do their very best. Parent: Our family loves Dexter Community Schools! We have been in the district for 10 years (moved from out of state), and have been extremely pleased with the education our sons have received. Our oldest graduated from the IB Diploma Programme in 2023, and was well prepared academically and socially for his first year at the University of Michigan. Our youngest is a rising junior, and is looking forward to participating in the SWWC consortium program as a senior. Both have been involved with the Orchestra program since 5th grade, as well as athletics, Model UN, MYIG, NHS, and more. Senior: Overall, my experience over the past 12 years has been relatively good. The schools were good, nurturing environments for the most part. In middle school, I was bullied severely and I feel like the school blamed me for it, but that was the worst part of my experience over the 12 years I spent in the district. The end of my 8th grade year and entirety of my freshman year were affected by COVID, and I feel like all of my teachers were very good at accommodating to those circumstances and I had no trouble keeping up with school remotely. The past four years of highschool have been a good experience for me!
