Alum: Definitely stressful and the school culture can be very competitive. However, I definitely feel like I was prepared for college by this school. The academics are rigorous and there are many opportunities to earn college credit. Teachers are a mixed bag but most of them are good and well-educated and a lot of the faculty here had a very large and positive influence on me. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved here and the sports are surprisingly not terrible. Alumni network is also pretty good. Senior: Deciding to attend Townsend Harris was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. For starters, the community here is very welcoming, whether it be teachers, students, or admin. Spend a day here and you will see a multitude of friendly interactions between students and teachers in the halls (dapping teachers up, to yelling each others’ names and saying hi in the halls) Another aspect I appreciate is this school’s active student body. There are several major student-led events that occur throughout the year, and virtually all students participate it in. FON and S!NG are the major events, and during these times, almost the entirety of the student population comes together to put together the productions. The school is always bustling after school, and most people stay late to participate in clubs, attend FON or S!NG rehearsals, or simply hang out in the halls. Parent: Stuyvesant represents a solid experience in the public school system. Many people are proud and happy to be here, across varied positions, teachers, administrators, staff, counseling etc. A huge school that manages to foster a sense of community! The students are very competitive with themselves, but for the most part very supportive of each other. Any student can find their passion and their people here, but they need to look and be involved. Fosters independence; diverse socioeconomically; many interesting perspectives; academic rigor; incredible resources; excellent facilities. That being said, not for every student; still need to deal with DOE bureaucracy in a big place; a couple of teachers have checked out or can’t teach; mental health is not the best here. Aside from that overall, Stuyvesant is pretty much what you see is what you get. Lots of pressure junior year. Heavy workload. Little sleep. Sophomore: Having chosen to go to Highschool of American Studies was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It is a small school, but for me that has always been a good thing because it means that everyone knows everyone. I know what to expect from teachers, I get to work with the same fellow students throughout the years, and I'm never late to my classes. The classes themselves are challenging and leave a lot of homework, but I've found it a welcome change after my last school. My only complaints are the small amount of funding for clubs and school trips, but I'm not sure if that is because of the school itself or the overall budget cuts happening all over NYC. Besides that, I would say that as a fluent Spanish speaker, I would've liked to have taken Spanish AP this year rather than Junior year and to have taken another college class in place of art. Overall, I have no regrets about haven chosen this school, and would recommend to any 8th grader, but these are just my complaints.... Read 149 reviews

Senior: My experience at Bard High School Early College has been substantially positive. Some of the best parts of my experience at Bard has been with the time I have spent doing activities with all of the friends that I made, members of the faculty that I feel like I have bonded with, acquiring good grades on assignments and assessments that I spent a lot of time studying for, and more. If there was any way that I could possibly list a single worst part of my experience at Bard, I would say that it had to do with the lack of quality and management when it came to clubs. The situation with the clubs is what really brought the general mood down for the school since there weren't a lot of resources and serious students that supervised the clubs. This is something that I hope will change in the future whenever I return to Bard again. Senior: The curriculum is rigorous and well structured with a lot of emphasis and help from the entire administration. The PA is actively involved and sometimes funds some activities for both students and faculty. The IB Program is intense but has a lot of benefits including College readiness! The only short coming about the school is space because it is shared with other schools. However, plans are underway to get a separate school space in the neighborhood. We have been briefed that the concerned officials in DOE has approved some steps and a space has been identified that can accommodate the school and it’s close to public transportation along the L train and local buses. Some parents are organized and do car pooling and share the costs. It’s an amazing plan works very well. School time is great based on the busy schedules and traffic in the area. Senior: Lag is its own culture, I get whiplash from talking to people outside of the laguardia-verse. Arts and art teachers are incredible, they care so much about what they do and really like to teach art to a new generation. the shows are always amazing in every way (esp the musical, opera, and SDFs), but the way things are budgeted are awful. Admin sucks but the teachers are usually really good and care a lot (some teachers care too much and their class is miserable bc of all the work). Senior: Millennium Brooklyn, has been an amazing environment for me to grow while offering support, and encouragement to become independent. Millennium is a relatively small school (600-700 students), in a large building that is shared with 3 other schools. The small school environment allows students to form valuable connections with their teachers that last throughout their time at MBHS and even after graduation. The majority of the teacher at this school are deeply passionate about what they are teaching, which make their classes engaging. While I have had teachers I did not like, most of them are not only great educators, but incredible people who are passionate about watching students thrive, and exceed their own expectations. In my opinion, the biggest downside of MBHS is the lack of class choices, in 9th and 10th grade you can't choose your classes, and there are a limited number of AP's to choose from Junior and Senior year.... Senior: I am currently a senior at NYC ischool. I have enjoyed my high school year there. It is a small school, but honestly, it doesn't affect you meeting new people since you can choose your classes and all grade levels can be in those classes unless it is a required class for your grade. Mostly all the teachers are good and really do like the classes they teach since they create the class and its their curriculum. Our school doesn't believe in homework, students can only take 3 AP classes max senior or junior year and are not big on tests, or taking off points for late work. This can either be good or bad depending on you, but it doesn't affect your chances of getting into a good college. For example, in my school year, people have gotten into Columbia University, Barnard College, Middlebury College, University of Pennsylvania, Tulane University, Lafayette College, and many more good colleges ( it all depends on what you make of your high school years). Alum: I started attending this school in 2012 and graduated in 2019. I honestly had a really good experience and I have no regrets going here. I loved most of the teachers I had, but there are a few things I didn't like. 1. The students in the G&T program were treated relatively better than the students in regular classes. 2. As a person who loves music, I don't think the program was good enough and a lot of students didn't put much effort into it. 3. The food was good for a few years as they were serving Mozzarella sticks, chocolate milk, and pizza, etc. But later on the food tasted less edible and they tried making the food "healthier" but it tasted disgusting.
