Junior: I started going to Cranbrook my freshman year. For the most part the school is super accepting and they care a lot about the students mental health. Some of the teachers are amazing but there are a few that aren't great. Cranbrook gives a lot of independence to its students and tries to focus on self-advocating, but some faculty members don't take the student's wishes seriously and a parent needs to get involved so that they listen. There is a slight divide between day students and boarding students, but they generally still get along. The school has also implemented a lot of new security measures which is good for safety but kind of annoying to deal with everyday. The campus has a lot of visitors walking around or admiring the architecture on days with nice weather but all the building are locked and require an ID to get in, so it's pretty safe. The biggest downside is that if you have a severe health problem or disability the school isn't very accommodating to it.... Read 288 reviews

Senior: As a current senior who's been at Greenhills since 6th grade, I can confidently say that this school has helped me grow as a student and a person. With a huge selection of extracurriculars, I was welcome to join and try anything I wanted. I discovered my passion for public speaking through the Forensics team, connected with other mixed students while trying delicious new foods during multicultural affinity group meetings, and even planned the school-wide spirit week as a member of the student council. Not only that, but this school boosts an excellent balance between rigorous academics and interactive learning. It feels like the teachers aren't there just to teach you, but to get to know you. I still enjoy chatting with my AP Statistics teacher every day even though I took her class last year. Parent: FJA has been an amazing experience for my daughter. She feels part of a community and has had many leadership opportunities that she would not have gotten in a big public high school, I know I had 2 other kids that attended one. She is not an athlete but at FJA she played volleyball, tennis and basketball, even being captain of the basketball team. At a public high school she would not have even made the teams. The attention from her teachers has been outstanding. The small class sizes have really prepared her for college. The growth in her self esteem has been clear and steady through her years here. Every Friday the school holds a town hall where they gather as a community. She has gotten up many times over the years at this meeting. She feels apart of something special. Alum: I went to GA for pretty much all my school years. I'd say the overall experience was quite well. The main thing I liked about it was the sense of community. That is pretty much why people go to GA, it's nice to see other Muslims, and the Islamic classes are great. However, I will say that at times GA focuses on things that aren't as important as they make it out to be, such as dress code. Of course, it is important yet, enforcing a very strict dress code, particularly for the girls, pretty much does the opposite of what it is supposed to do. From almost all the girls I've heard, it steers them away from wanting to dress more modestly. Especially if there is a new Muslim girl it it is hard for them to adapt quickly.
