The web of support from adults is genuine and students feel connected to them. It carries over to engaging classes, access to teachers, and many clubs and organizations. While athletics are excellent, my non-sporty kids' experiences in the arts were also rich and varied. They formed deep friendships that bridged social groups of all interests. Senior: Middlesex has allowed me to grow as a student. I came into 9th grade as a reclass, meaning my first year at Middlesex was going to be my second time completing a freshman level of education. Right away I realized that this school was academically rigorous, especially the English department. Middlesex holds itself to a high standard in the writing and analysis of English education. We were taught to forget everything that we thought we knew about writing and follow a new set of complicated but enriching guidelines. Sophomore students are required to take a pass/fail writing workshop class which focuses on improving analysis, transitions, and developing ideas thoroughly. Besides their English department, the school allows its students to pursue higher -level classes as long as they complete their requirements. Something that could be done differently is the amount of diversity as it is a PWI it took me a while to get used to. Especially coming from a public school where all students were POC, it was very different but they offered clubs and groups such as affinity groups that helped me work my way into the school. Alum: Govs provides a balanced environment -- which is tough to find in boarding schools these days. There are high standards for everyone on campus, both students and faculty, but the family like atmosphere keeps the energy positive and the sense of everyone-in-it-together. Academics are rigorous but the teacher-student relationships are unparalleled as most faculty live on campus and go out of their way to provide extra help. The school's new coastal research center is unbelievable and speaks to Govs' focus on place-based and experiential learning where students are forced to take greater ownership for their work. The arts program, especially photography and ceramics, were highlights, and in athletics, all sports are competitive as athletes care about getting better and becoming a team over the course of the season. I'd love to see the dorm facilities and fieldhouse get an update, but boarders still have a blast in their spaces and the fieldhouse gets the job done in the NE winter!... Read 80 reviews

Parent: Bancroft has been an amazing experience for my three sons. Prior to arriving at Bancroft, we switched schools four times searching for a good fit, it was agonizing. When we landed at Bancroft it felt right, right from the start. This year will be our sixth year at Bancroft, their experience has been meaningful and rewarding, Bancroft hits all the right notes between academic excellence, sports, extra curriculars and school culture. They implemented a new advanced statistics class just because my son was interested in it and wanted to be challenged in math! None of my sons had ever played tennis before Bancroft, but now all three will be on the varsity tennis team and my oldest is the Varsity Captain, because Bancroft encourages kids to try new things. He also tried swimming and didn't like, but no problem, at Bancroft you can experiment without fear because the teachers and staff are open-minded, smart and encouraging. A+ from me....
