Alum: This comfortable school has lovely teachers, facilities, sports, and spirit. For some reason, the school's most tough, time-consuming subject is English. Some of the teachers teach it in an excellent creative and analytical manner while others make it extremely hard and tie it to unwanted leftist, woke ideology like in the senior course (Critical Race Theory, Queer Theory, Feminist Theory, Gender Studies, Marxist/Leninist Theory), drawing attention away from higher pursuit in useful subjects. Students spend so much time on "English" to keep their grade up that a lot end up majoring in similar topics in college, because they are unable to compete with top students in business, law, medicine, and technology. If the English taught more grammar/reading comprehension/inference in a rigorous way, students would be better prepared for the SAT/ACT and graduate free from woke ideology. Senior: Starting with the teachers, they are always approachable and helpful for any questions or help that I may need in class. During my time here, I was able to try out two new sports, while sticking to the ones I already knew. They provide the flexibility and opportunity to try out new activities and even encourage it. My college counselor is absolutely amazing and I guided me through the whole processes; through every up and every down. My classes are challenging but engaging, and I look forward to them everyday. Parent: After having a lived in multiple countries in Asia, we moved to the US two years ago. We were looking for a different school for our two oldest boys entering high school. Right from the first Contact with Admissions, the school was super welcoming and supportive. We had a great campus look and see visit and got all questions answered right away. Fast forward, our kids integrated super fast into the school community. It is a great mix of nationalities, all very open-minded, and welcoming, which we were truly looking for and didn’t get an our former school in the US. They are actively participating in afterschool activities and sports, with a great variety of choices, and even the option to create their own club with teacher support. We just completed our re-enrollment for the second year and again the admission team was super supportive to accommodate all our questions and needs straight away. Junior: As a junior at the Ross school, who has been here since 5th grade, I am in love with Ross. Everything about it is what i look for in a school. I have friends who have left this school and come back because they missed it so much. The curriculum is so unique. I still remember everything i learned in 5th grade because it was so engaging. The teachers really really care about the well being of their students. I have such good relations with my teachers and i’m able to talk to them about anything, not just academics. The classroom environment feels so welcoming and the teachers don’t just lecture, but rather engage in the material through discussions. The community is truly something else. I am just starting the college admissions processes and i’m feeling extremely prepared. Ross offers SAT prep and every student has the opportunity to choose their own personal college counselor. Senior: Northwood School was a refreshing change from growing up in a small town in Upstate NY. For a small school (200 students), Northwood has a very diverse population, with students from over 20 different countries. Not only that, with the offer of many elite sports (soccer, hockey and alpine and Nordic skiing) creates a culture of naturally driven students. Students at Northwood strive for the best opportunities in the classroom and in their extracurriculars. The college process at Northwood is also exceptional. Over 15 students from a graduating class of 70 go to a D1 school for their sport and many others go to or prestigious colleges for academics. There is a group of staff members at Northwood whose entire job is to help students find the perfect program and college for them along with financial aid and scholarships.
