Great school!! Truly diverse. Great and rigorous academics! Students are at least bilingual. They receive both American and French diplomas that opens many doors to Universities in US, abroad and global careers. Some of the French teachers have a fixed mindset and can be very harsh labeling students. French teachers could have better training on the growth mindset to encourage growth and development of students confidence. This is a major cultural difference as opposed to American teachers. The biggest negative in my opinion is the color system based on competencies for grading of middle schoolers. This system was designed to stop competition among students comparing number grades (0-20) so they focus on improving specific competencies. This has backfired: now students still compare colors, are very confused with competencies and dont know where they are in their academic achievements. Competencies together with number grades would be much better in preparation for HS and college.

Review Lycée Français de New York

The Lycée is an extraordinary school that goes above and beyond to care and support its students. Relations between faculty and students are present everywhere, with the Dialogue hours being one of the most prominent examples. The resources and facilities available to us are immense, and the Lycée provides lots of opportunities for us to engage with the school community to. The administration cares about us as students, of course, but also as capable individuals; it’s a perfect strike of guidance but also of autonomy.

The Lycée Français de New York has always been a home for me. That's probably a good way to describe it: "home". I feel supported there by my friends, my teachers, the administration, etc. Lycée definitely wants to push us to be the best that we can be in academics, sports, and as people in general. It gives us not only the resources to do so, but also a competitive and motivating environment for us to put our best foot forward.
