My school offers many opportunities for students to grow academically. There are many different kinds of after school clubs and activities provided to students. They may want to stay after for a clubs such as the “Green Team” where they focus on educating students about the environment through group projects and they encourage sustainable habits that are beneficial to nature. Our school also has a great theatre program for students to enjoy. Our director is determined to involve any and all students who audition to be apart of the productions. York has a great sports program as well. One thing our school could work on is updating its facilities. For example, the auditorium seats are over 50 year old and falling apart. Most of the money has been spent on the newest addition to the school called the “Learning Commons” which creates a technology based learning environment for students’ engagement. It replaces the library, but still has books.
Although a lot of the schools aren't large in population, the student participation in sports and other extracurriculars is highly encouraged and expected by the community. AP, IB and governor's school classes/programs are encouraged for more academic students other options are also available for students that want to go straight into the workforce, such as New Horizons and ROTC. There are a lot of supportive teachers but regular non-advanced classes in high school tend to be very easy. Middle school doesn't prepare students very well for more advanced classes in high school, but Advanced Math is very well taught. The overall community is very supportive towards students who want to do succeed academically and in athletics.
I moved here as a transfer senior and school has been hard but faculty, staff and teachers have been very well helpful for me joining this county as a student and as a human. I come from three high schools within my high school career. The worst parts of this experience was obviously starting a new school and trying to meet new people as a senior knowing there is really no need to meet new people because I will be off doing my own things within the next year. But I have good experiences too, the school is very good with giving news about upcoming things here and there. Sports and after school activities are good as well. It is mainly an active duty county for kids who have parents serving in the armed services. I would definitely believe this school division will remain good for a while. It is a safe environment and very good schooling and counseling to your pleasure.
