Rating 4.14 out of 5 7 reviews
Yancey county schools has many programs that help students look at many possible career and educational paths. They have a huge focus not only on traditional college goals but also trades that are hands on. Their schools and teachers make it easy to be successful because everyone is so supportive. I highly recommend the schools in this area because they are trying to target every students success.
Prior to COVID-19, I was under the impression that the Yancey County School Board cared deeply about their students and teachers. However, my opinion has changed. The Yancey County School Board allowed political pressure to warp their ability to adequately protect and care for the community. They refused to mandate masks, which went against CDC guidelines and did their best to suppress any COVID regulations. Not only did this endanger the lives of countless students and teachers, this directly contradicted their promise to ensure school quality. They forced teachers to teach both virtually and on-site, a highly difficult task that prevented effective teaching. Despite the negligence of the school board, Yancey County Schools have remained strong. I believe this area deserves to boast of its schools. Teachers have an incredible drive to be around and further the education of their students. Students are encouraged to learn and take part in extracurriculars that aid in their development
The schools are great and have some amazing teachers who are willing to help any of their students! I personally like how homey you feel when you walk through the door of one of the schools.
