I have had good and bad parts during my experience attending a union county public school. Diversity was not a big factor seen in elementary school, but in middle school that started to change as I saw more people of color. Despite this, there has been some issues of bullying or discrimination due to people’s skin color, religious followings, and cultural differences. Luckily, this changed to a large extent in high school. In high school, there has been a large uptick in diversity. Most students one sees participating in school events and clubs are people of color, and I have not seen nor experienced any directed discrimination to individuals during these past four years at high school. Education is highly competitive though. This has resulted in many students feeling unmotivated to do better because the IB students are always at the top. It's hard to be on the same level as them sometimes, even if the rest of us are enrolled in AP and SPCC classes. Safety has also been an issue.
My experience was very memorable. My older brother was in front of me in my highschool and I was influenced by him and his experience as well as going into highschool during COVID. Over all, the schools are great.
HI, my name is Jacob Conroy and I am a junior at Porter Ridge school. Union County Public Schools is great at giving their students opportunities after high school. My favorite experience at a UCPS has to be being on my high school basketball team.
