The whole community surrounded with Delano is tight knit. Its the type of town that you knew almost everyone and that most people got along with as well. When athletics would be competing very well it's like the whole district would come out to sporting events to cheer on these young athletes. The district is very supportive and even with the drama department, many shows would be sold out especially the musicals.
We've lost too many good teachers, from the high school in particular, to surrounding districts. Through the culture wars and fragmented parent groups, the district has yet to take any concrete steps to identify who they are through proactive statements, task forces/work groups, supporting policies, etc. This has worn on the community and overshadowed the good things happening there.
I went to Delano Public Schools from fourth until I graduated in 2022. Over the years there were a lot of changes to the actual building of the school, but not much to the schools themselves. A very clicky community that carries over into the school very harshly. Teachers are all super nice and helpful and so is most of the staff although I think they should be having higher wages instead of cutting them to help "improve" the school. Athletics are a huge part of the school, but again a very clicky atmosphere within all sports, and lots of coaches play students off of that clickiness as well which is disappointing, but I understand it happens. I did enjoy my time there very much everyone is accommodating to helping students of all learning capabilities and teachers truly value every student's education.
