The school district has incredible educational opportunities. However, the culture at these schools is less than ideal. Especially in magnet schools or schools in dangerous areas, there is a lot of physical violence that is not taken care of accordingly. Resources are not given to students to keep them away from violent crime.
I am from California and moved to Chicago two years ago. The admin doesn't take our issues seriously, I was getting harassed on social media and brought it up to them because I was afraid of anything physical happening on school grounds. I asked for help to de-escalate the situation, and they listened but did nothing. The food is terrible, especially because I'm a senior, they don't order enough food for all the grades and the seniors eat last so we're left with leftovers and aren't fully fed. I also got sick before eating meat from school and had to go home early. I do feel like most of the teachers are good/okay. We don't have proper air conditioning, not every classroom has it and they already know this is an issue but do nothing about it. I feel like sport is pointless in this school because we lack the space/places to do it. We don't have a football field, a track field, etc.
My experience with Chicago Public Schools has been largely positive. The diverse student body and dedicated educators create a vibrant learning environment. While there are challenges, such as funding issues and disparities in resources, I've seen a commitment to student success and community engagement. CPS strives to provide quality education and opportunities for all students.
