Overall, Cherokee is an excellent school district. My children have generally had terrific teachers and some truly wonderful and 100% invested in their success. High School Counselor has been exceptionally helpful in planning for Dual Enrollment for my oldest. My kids classes have been challenging and worthwhile overall. My complaint on the high school is not as many extra curriculars as I would like (ie no Science Olympiad, not as many after school clubs) and the lack of block scheduling. Because high school is only 6 classes plus lunch, once you are done with core 4, few options for additional opportunities. My son is in a double period for Aerospace, thus his schedule is full. No room for team sports, a language or band if he wants it, specialty classes in electronics, welding, computers, etc. Perhaps they should shorten each class by 10 minutes to allow for 1 extra period. My complaint on the middle school is poor communication from admin, lack of clubs, etc.
Cherokee provided all the opportunities a student needs to succeed in any area after high school. They provided good academics and sports. If a students area was not academics there were many electives and pathways that provide opportunities for students.
The best part of my experience in the Cherokee county school system is the teachers. I have been fortunate to have excellent teachers that have a passion for teaching. I have learned so much and have developed a love for learning. I do not have anything negative to say about the school as I have always received the support and help that I need.
