BASIS Scottsdale is a tuition-free, public charter school serving students in grades 5–12. We are a proud part of the BASIS Charter Schools network, which has been providing world-class education since 1998.
Supported by an innovative curriculum and Subject Expert Teachers who are passionate about what they do, we help our students achieve more and go further. At BASIS Scottsdale, your child will be engaged, challenged, and given opportunities to explore.
Our middle school curriculum is designed to progressively move students toward a greater understanding of fundamental concepts in each subject. In high school, students master advanced content at an accelerated rate while working towards their educational goals and preparing for college. At every grade level, we give students the tools and resources they need to succeed.

Hi! I'm a sophomore at BASIS Scottsdale. It's a great school, especially if your goal is more academic-oriented than sports-oriented. The focus in high school is definitely on taking AP classes, but the majority of the teachers who teach the AP classes are incredibly qualified and prepare students very well for the AP exams while also cultivating curiosity and learning. In addition, the middle school grades are meant to ease students into the accelerated AP curriculum, so students who focus on classes aren't left behind. That said, the school isn't for everyone, and a large proportion of students leave after 8th grade. There are a good amount of clubs and extracurriculars given that it is a pretty small school (~1000 students), with the Speech and Debate program particularly standing out in the state. I've heard from my senior friends that the college counseling and preparation is very helpful, since the focus in 12th grade isn't on challenging classes like 11th. Definitely recommend.
BASIS Scottsdale is an academically rigorous middle and high school. While a great stress is put on academics, this school offers a variety of clubs for all grades, both academic and non-academic ones. BASIS is not your traditional model of a public high school, and if you are a student interested in a more social setting for high school, this may not be your best fit. With that said, the curriculum greatly prepares students academically for college.
Ranking highly every year, BASIS Scottsdale (BSc) provides a well-rounded curriculum, committed teachers, and a competitive yet collaborative social milieu. Yet across my high school years, BSc's standards have lowered noticeably, be it the rigor of classes, the behavioral expectations of students, and worst, the insistence that grades mean everything. This in turn has caused students to lose sight of the true aim of school, namely to explore an area of interest with rigor and passion.
Changing the school's standards back to excellence would push students to learn for the sake of bettering their minds and curiosity.
