Current Master's student: The faculty and staff at UPenn really make the university stand out from the rest. I researched many graduate programs across NJ, PA, and NY and attended open houses to help me find my fit. UPenn's professors are not only experienced nurse practitioners but actively practicing NPs. They have insight that is invaluable and a true passion for preparing the next class of nurse practitioners. I would highly recommend their Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP program to nurses looking to advance their careers in this way. The only thing I can say in terms of areas for improvement is that the onboarding process for admitted students could be more communicative as to what the next steps are and the start dates for enrollment/classes. I've also reached out regarding financial aid and was referred back to their website which is where I started. I provided specific concerns and information which were not addressed via email. Doctoral Student: I have attended 4 semesters of an 8-semester BSN-DNP program with a focus on Family and Emergency Nursing Practice. Over the past year, the best parts of my experience have been the sincere and welcoming culture of my professors, the reassurance that I'm receiving a strong education in my field, and the strong support I have with the small cohort of students in this track. My cohorts have been, without exception, kind, considerate, supportive, team-oriented, and encouraging--from those ahead of me in school passing down their supplies to the part-time students who become a part of our study group for maybe 1 or 2 classes. It's truly been a fantastic experience in partnership with cohorts who are for the advancement of the group instead of themselves as individuals. The worst parts have been expensive trips for on-campus intensives, worrying about the stability of my financial future after graduation, and some poor organization on the part of clinical placement here in Nashville, TN.... Master's Student: I was disappointed to see that many scholarship programs funded by the school weren't available for my specific department regarding my field hours I would be completing in my 2nd year. I'm worried since I work full time and am the main financial provider for my family, but I am really excited about getting experience in my community! I have loved going to campus and meeting new people, especially since they live near LA, and they also want to make new friends to attend football games etc. I got involved in the Latinx Caucus of Social Work, this has given me the opportunity to start connecting more in my community and other students to feel welcomed and involved as well. I will be planning events on campus and outreaching to local non-university related members to increase education and be a resource. Master's Student: I am a student at Nell Hudson Woodruff School of Nursing in the Master of Nursing Pathway to MSN program. I absolutely love it. The courses are very rigorous as this is an accelerated program and this is a top nursing program. The instructors were very knowledgeable and the exams were an accurate review of what we were covering in class. We are given one day of the week each semester that we do not have anything going on at school. For example. first semester was Mondays off. We had class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, lab on Thursdays, and clinical on Friday. It was an awesome schedule. The main negative was that whether you pass or fail is based only on your exam grades. The best thing about TCU is that even though academics are taken seriously, there are so many opportunities to be involved on campus, contribute to the community, and be involved in organizations and interests that keep a balance in college life.
